Podcasts! Because You Can Only Listen To So Much Pearl Jam on Spotify

... or Wilson Phillips. Whatever floats your boat, right?

Audio podcasts are a great way to keep yourself entertained and hopefully learn a thing or two or more about the topic(s) they're addressing. I listen to around a dozen every week and mix the genres up depending on my mood or what's going on in my work or leisure life. Design conference coming up? Listen to a Debbie Millman podcast. She's probably interviewed at least one of the featured speakers. Fantasy football draft next week? Feed your brain with some ESPN Fantasy Focus. Need to turn that frown upside down? Have a drink! Or better yet, laugh along with the thoughtfully filthy humor of Bill Burr. There's plenty out there for everyone, every taste and every mood. Here are mine, complete with iTunes links, because I'm good like that. Have any suggestions? Comment below and share them with tens of others who read my blog.

Comedy

Fitzdog Radio - Greg Fitzsimmons
WTF with Marc Maron - Marc Maron
Penn's Sunday School - Penn Gillette

Wha? No Adam Corolla? I heard he's really really good at podcasting, but man... That VOICE. I can't voluntarily listen to that G-D annoying voice.

Sports

ESPN: Fantasy Focus Football - Matthew Berry and Nate Ravitz
ESPN: Fantasy Focus Baseball - Matthew Berry and Nate Ravitz
The Fantasy Football Guys - Kevin Moore and Lyle Konkiel

Into fantasy football? Go with Kevin and Lyle at The Fantasy Football Guys over the ESPN'ers. They're smarter and a hell of a lot more entertaining. They also offer a free and a pay league (two of each I think) that's not impossible to get into. Tell them Clown Baby sent you. Yeah. Clown Baby.

Graphic Design

Design Matters with Debbie Millman - Debbie Millman/Design Observer
Design Matters Archive - Debbie Millman/Design Observer
The Deeply Graphic Design Cast - Wes McDowell, Brandon Voss and Mikelle Morrison
The Reflex Blue Show - Donovan Berry
Design Chat - Ryan McGovern
Typeradio - Donald Beekman, Liza Enebeis and Underware
The Apple Artist - George Coghill, Krishna Sadasivam and Tracy Bishop

Millman's the best, in my opinion. Amazing interviews with awesome guests. I've listened to the Aaron James Draplin podcast at least a dozen times, I shit you not.

And I JUST discovered The Apple Artist while doing research for this blog post. Who knew? I even follow Coghill and Tracy Bishop on Twitter. Have I missed their Tweets promoting the show? Knowing me, yes. But I became an instant fan and really look forward to catching up on what I missed as well as hearing what's coming next. Well done, you guys. And gal. :)

Illustration

Big Illustration Party Time - Kevin Cross and Joshua Kemble
Big Illustration Party Time Hangover! - Kevin Cross  and Joshua Kemble
Chris Oatley's ArtCast - Chris Oately
Concept Art & Illustration - Chris Oatley
Paper Wings Podcast - Chris Oatley and Lora Innes
Man vs. Art - Raul Aguirre Jr.
Art & Story - Mark Rudolph and Jerzy Drozd
Art & Story Extreme - Mark Rudolph and Jerzy Drozd
Comics Are Great! - Jerzy Drozd
Inkstuds - Robin McConnell
Drawn Today - Mike Sass, Mark Harchar and Allen Douglas

Sadly a few of these have ended their run, but they still provide plenty of info and insight that's never dated. Of the illustration podcasts, both living and deceased, Thomas James' EFII is my fav. He asks the questions we'd all like to ask and his guest list is a who's who of industry rock stars. John Cuneo? Seymour Chwast? Lilla Rogers? The lovely Jessica Hische? My buddy Bob Staake? Oatley? Glitschka? Frigging Murray Tinkelman? Are you kidding me? Listen and learn, people.

The rumor on Twitter is that Kevin Cross is getting back into the podcast game. But can it be considered a rumor if I heard it from Kevin himself? Let's hope it's a fact. Looking forward to the resurrection of Big Illo, fo shizzle.

And remember: Have any suggestions? Comment below and share them. Don't be shy.

This is a great list that I will now keep bookmarked! Thanks for putting all of these together in one place!

I love This American Life and RadioLab. Depending if I'm feeling sentimental or sciencey. :)

Thanks for the list! I agree RadioLab is my favorite right now! I also am liking By the Way in Conversation with Jeff Garlin, and the JV Club. I can't wait to dig into new ones!
